In mid-November, the artist for the project, Gabriela Torres Ruiz, visited the CSSB Center for Structural Systems Biology in Hamburg. The visit was coordinated by Caroline Seuring, who currently oversees the cryoEM facility operations at CSSB, leading a team of EM specialists supporting PhDs and postdoctoral researchers in visualizing molecular mechanisms.During the visit, Gabriela familiarized herself with the facility and the diverse technologies employed for the study and imaging of microorganisms. The center primarily employs two techniques: traditional light microscopy and electron microscopy, and Gabriela was provided with illustrative examples of images produced using both methods.
In addition to the comprehensive technology overview, four individuals and teams specializing in bacteria research explained their ongoing investigations, providing valuable insights. A return visit is scheduled for the beginning of next year.
